Description
Configuring syslogging for Sun[TM] Secure Application Switch

Steps to Follow
Steps to Follow

On the switch:

  • Step1: Configure Syslog Server

Syntax: event syslog host ipAddress port integer filter text facility enumeration

e.g.
sun(config)# event syslog host 10.8.118.19 514 defaultSyslog local7

(Note: Select local0 through local7. The default setting is local0.)

  • Step2: Enable Debug Mode [Optional]
e.g.
sun(config)# no event filterProfile rule defaultSyslog 90
  • Step3: Disable Debug Mode [Optional]
e.g.
sun(config)# event filterProfile defaultSyslog rule 90 drop logLevel debug
  • Step4: Check current defaultSyslog filter rule
sun(config)# show event filterProfile rule defaultSyslog
Profile Name Position Action Summary
-------------------- ----------- ------- ----------------------------
defaultSyslog        90          drop    level<=debug
defaultSyslog 100 send all

On the Solaris Syslog Server:

  • Step1: Edit /etc/syslog.conf with vi
# vi /etc/syslog.conf
  • Step2: Add the following line to /etc/syslog.conf file
/etc/syslog.conf
local7.debug /var/tmp/nauticus.log

(Note: Please use it as the first line.)

  • Step3: Create the nauticus log file
# touch /var/tmp/nauticus.log
  • Step4: Restart the syslogd daemon. Use the pkill to HUP the syslogd daemon.
# pkill -HUP syslogd
  • Step5: Verify syslogd is managing local7 system messages. Use the logger utility.
# logger -p local7.warn "Testing local7.warn"
# tail /var/tmp/nauticus.log
Sep 21 12:01:55 sun root: [ID 702911 local7.warning] Testing local7.warn
  • Step6: Create some events on the switch and then check that the events are being logged.
# tail /var/tmp/nauticus.log
