PreviouslyPublishedAs 205413 Applies to:Sun Fire V210 Server - Version All Versions and laterSun Fire V240 Server - Version All Versions and later All Platforms GoalMixing DIMMs of differing capacity within a system is supported in the Sun Fire[TM] v210 and Sun Fire[TM] v240 servers. Fix Oracle Confidential (INTERNAL). Do not distribute to customers Mixing DIMMs of differing capacity within a system is supported in the Sun Fire[TM] v210 and Sun Fire[TM] v240 servers.
When the V210 and V240 servers were initially released the supported memory configurations only allowed for the system to contain memory DIMMs of the same capacity to be installed within the system. This is no longer the case. These servers can now be configured so that different banks can have different capacities of memory within a system. So a current system may now be upgraded using DIMMs that have a different capacity than the DIMMs that already occupy the server. However the memory DIMMs within a bank MUST still be a matched set . This requirement has not changed. Within a bank the DIMMs must be of the same capacity, manufacturer, speed, part number, and SPD type. Please note that for the memory controller to be able to implement DIMM to DIMM interleaving the system must contain memory of all the same capacity. When configured with an unbalanced memory configuration the memory controller's inability to optimize interleaving will result in a slight decrease in the memory's performance potential.
