To list the initial data a customer should collect and provide to an Oracle Technical Support Engineer when opening a call
Solution
Sun Fire[TM] V280R, V480, V490, V880, V890, and V880z Initial Data Collection
The information requested is to enable quick determination of root cause in the event one of the noted servers experiences a failure. The data collected will assist the Oracle Technical Support Engineer in the Solution Center in the expedient and quality identification of the failing component.
In some cases, additional information may be requested such as core files and explorers. You will be advised by the Oracle Technical Support Engineer when this determination is made.
The following commands will output the data that is needed by an Oracle Technical Support Engineer to assist in determining the probable cause of a Sun Fire[TM] V280R, V480, V490, V880, V890, and V880z system failure. Thus, once the data below is collected, it should be sent to the Oracle Technical Support Engineer working the case.
NOTE: The engineer may ask for more information (i.e., core files, explorers), as needed.
NOTE: To log the information to a file please refer to the console logging instruction <Document: 1008702.1> before running these commands.
1. From the comand line prompt, execute the following and send the output:
#usr/platform/sun4u/sbin/prtdiag -v
2. From the Solaris[TM] level or OS level, the /var/adm/messages file has to be sent also:
- example: /var/adm/messages /var/adm/messages.0 .....
3. If RSC is setup please gather the following:
Note: If RSC is not setup please follow Technical Instruction <Document: 1011888.1> .
From OS /usr/platform/SUNW,"system_type"/rsc/rscadm
# rscadm loghistory
From rsc console
rsc> consolehistory
rsc> loghistory
4. Run the following to gather software revision and kernel patch
levels:
# more /etc/release
# uname -a
5. When did this start? Has any hardware been added or changed recently?
6. Is the system rebooting or hanging?
