Purpose

This document provides information about VSM SIM messages that are displayed on a Host MVS console.

Scope

Details

A SIM is the mechanism used by the VTSS subsystem to present a message on the z/OS host operator console.

A SIM provides up to 4 messages on the operator console with the following message prefix:

SLS6659I Sense information
SLS7516E VTSS Fault Symptom Code (FSC)
SLS7517I Multi-line explanation of the FSC reported from the SLS7516E message
SLS6974I VTSS model information for the SIM

An SR should be opened and the four messages indicated need to be entered into the SR.

The Support File Bundles from each node need to be collected and attached to the SR.

If the output of SLS7516E is fsc00100004, then a node successfully rebooted. Likely a failover and successful recovery occurred. The VSM should be fully operational and no immediate action should be required. The Support File Bundles and Statesave from the failed node should be collected for further analysis.

It is necessary to get the output of all of the associated SIM messages and documented in the SR
SLS6659I and sls7516E are essential.
If SLS7517I is not known, the definition can be obtained from Tape Support links or VSM6/7 workspace
The SLS6974I is good to know but not critical to diagnosing the problem.
