In this Document
Applies to:Oracle ZFS Storage ZS5-2 - Version All Versions and laterOracle ZFS Storage ZS4-4 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage ZS5-4 - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Backup Appliance - Version All Versions and later Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Racked System ZS5-4 - Version All Versions and later 7000 Appliance OS (Fishworks) PurposeProvide the list of Backup Applications that have been certified/qualified with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance NDMP, and are therefore supported.
ScopeThis document provides the list of Backup Applications that are known to work (and not work) with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance NDMP. Other Backup Applications may work, but only those listed here are supported.
DetailsThe following Backup Applications are supported with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance NDMP:
The following Backup Applications DO NOT work correctly with Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance NDMP:
Definitions: Local NDMP Backup: The data resides on Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance shares and is backed up to a tape drive that is connected to the same Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Remote NDMP Backup: The data resides on Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance shares and is backed up to a tape drive that is connected to the Backup Application host (media server/media agent) 3-Way NDMP Backup: The data resides on one Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance's shares and is backed up to a tape drive that is connected to a different Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Passthrough NDMP Backup: The data is provided by the Backup Application host and is directly sent over the network to a tape drive that is connected to Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance TAR/DUMP NDMP Format: The standard format that most Backup Applications will use with NDMP. It is a variant of the tar or dump commands in Unix. It is generally able to perform selective file backup and restore in conjunction with a filesystem. ZFS-NDMP Format: Oracle proprietary format that enables the backup and recovery of all the blocks in a filesystem or LUN. Because it is block based, it is generally able to perform full backups and restores faster than TAR/DUMP. However, it requires a full restore of the share in order to retrieve individual files. Refer to the NDMP Implementation Guide for the Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance for detailed information on NDMP.
Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Feature and Known Bug Release Information Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance only supports IPv4 NDMP - IPv6 NDMP is NOT supported BUG 25994457 - NDMP service should support IPv6 network addressing OS 8.7.0+ The backup of replication target using ZFS-NDMP feature isn't working BUG 26496271 - Unable to use ZFS NDMP to backup replication target - No fix implemented yet OS 8.7.0 (2013.1.7.0) - DO NOT USE with NDMP. Upgrade directly to OS 8.7.4 or higher. BUG 26019969 - NDMP Backups may cause head panics - Fixed in OS 8.7.4 OS 8.4.0 (2013.1.4.0) - NDMP Backup of Target Replicas: ZFS-NDMP (not TAR/DUMP) backups can be performed directly from a replication target OS 8.3.0 (2013.1.3.0) - Introduction of NDMP FSE (File Service Extensions)
