Purpose

 Provide information regarding VSM6 / VSM7 Power message SPT-8000-5X

Details

Symptoms

SPT-8000-5X indicates that the ILOM fault manager has received an error report indicating a loss of AC input to a server power supply has been detected.

Changes

External AC power has been interrupted

Cause

Scheduled power maintenance

Unscheduled power outage

Solution

Experience has shown that these types of messages will show up after an external power failure, or while performing some type of scheduled maintenance with the main power supply or uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

If power does not recover after external power is restored, an SR should be open for resolution.

If the problem is not related to a scheduled customer maintenance action, external power failure, or does not recover after a power outage:

Verify Power Input to the power supply.
The following steps should be taken in order to determine if the problem is internal or external to the VLE.
a. Verify that the power supply switch is in the ON position.
b. Check that the power cable connection is seated at both ends.
c. Verify that the circuit breaker is on for the PDU that powers the power supply.
d. Verify that the PDU input power (customer power) is correct.
