Solution Type Predictive Self-Healing Sure Solution 2245776.1 : SL150 - Why Does 'Media Health' Show Up In The SL150 BUI As 'UNKNOWN'?
In this Document
Applies to:StorageTek SL150 Modular Tape Library - Version All Versions to All Versions [Release All Releases]Information in this document applies to any platform. SL150 BUI PurposeTo describe why newly entered SL150 media shows up as 'Unknown' in the SL150 BUI ScopeUser Information DetailsThe Media Health column was first introduced in 2.60. When the library firmware is first loaded onto a library, a library reboot and initialization is required. Media Health determination of “GOOD, DEGRADED, or FAILED” are not filled in at this point, the media health status will remain as “UNKNOWN” until the tape is at some point loaded and is mounted from a drive due to normal use or manually moving the tape via the UI to and from a drive. Also, the other fields on the TAPES screen for “last loaded date” and “last drive” will be blank until the tape is loaded in a drive. To get the MEDIA HEALTH evaluation fields filled out on the TAPE screen with proper icons and proper health reporting – each tape must be loaded into a drive and dismounted. This moving is done via the BUI (right clicking on the tape and invoking the “move tape” action) or by normal host mount and dismount of a tape to/from a tape drive. To move a tape manually do the following (however, it is recommended to allow normal tape movement to populate the media health value since moving tapes via the BUI can lead to the tape application database and the library tape database becoming out of sync requiring a manual re-synchonisation of the library and the application to ensure that the application knows the position of all tape volumes in the library)...
