   mbc.se-dma

Severity

Major

Description

Fault due to a serious internal error detected by the XSCF on the DMA interface of an MBC chip.

The XSCF will no longer be able to contact the chips and devices that are connected to the faulty MBC chip.

Automated Response

If the MBC chip is not on an XSCFU or XSCF portion on CMU/MBU, no immediate action is taken due to this fault. The platform administrator should schedule a maintenance action.

If the MBC chip is on the XSCFU of an M12-1 or M12-2, no immediate action is taken due to this fault. The platform administrator should schedule a maintenance action.

If the MBC chip is on the XSCFU of a M12-2S system, which is formed by more than 1 Building Block, the XSCF will fail over to the standby XSCF.

Impact

If the MBC chip is on the MBU (for M12-1) or CMUL/XSCFU (for M12-2) and all the DMA channels are failed, the platform becomes unbootable.

If the MBC chip is on an XSCFUX of a XB-Box: The crossbar way with this XB-Box is deconfigured the next time the Ppars related to this XB-Box is restarted.

If the MBC chip is on an active XSCF of a M12-2S system and this is the last DMA channel on the MBC chip to fail, the XSCFU is deconfigured.

Indicted Hardware

If the MBC chip is on a MBU of an M12-1 server, the MBU is marked for replacement.

If the MBC chip is on a CMUL of an M12-2 or M12-2S server, the CMUL is marked for replacement.

If the MBC chip is on a XSCFU of an M12-2 or M12-2S server, the XSCFU is marked for replacement.

If the MBC chip is on an XSCFUX of an XB-Box, the XSCFUX is marked for replacement.

Suggested Action for System Administrator

The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.

Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
