Severity

Major

Description

Fault due to I2C access failure to I2C devices on the link card.

The devices that are normally accessible are:

- sensors:

- temperature sensors;
- LED controllers;
- Voltage sensors;

- controllers:

- I2C switches;
- Voltage controller in DDCs
- Fan controller
- PCI hot plug controllers;
- PCI Express switch chip

- seeprom:

- FRUID SEEPROMs

These devices can no longer be accessed or controlled by the XSCF or the PCI expansion box firmware.

Automated Response

If the resource that is inaccessible is one of the sensors (it may be the temperature sensor), then all the fans on the box are turned to high speed.

If the resource that is inaccessible is one of the controllers, then the box will not start.

For other cases, no immediate action is taken.

Impact

If the resource that is inaccessible is one of the controllers or the SEEPROM, then the link card is deconfigured the next time the box is restarted (after a box restart or poweron). This means this PCI expansion box will be unusable.

For other cases, nothing is deconfigured.

Indicted Hardware

The link card is marked for replacement.

Suggested Action for System Administrator

The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.

Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
