- i2c.device
Severity
- Major
Description
-
Fault due to I2C access failure to I2C devices on the FRU.
The devices that are accessible are:
- sensors:
- temperature sensors;
- LED controllers;
- Voltage sensors;
- Fan rotation sensors;
- LLC pump rotation sensors;
- controllers:
- keyswitches;
- 4-channel I2C MUXes;
- Voltage controllers;
- Voltage controller in DDCs;
- PCI hot plug controllers;
- Onboard Giga-LAN chip;
- Onboard USB chip;
- RTC;
- seeprom:
- FRUID SEEPROMs;
- SEEPROMs to backup XSCF data;
- other:
- SPD-ROM;
These devices can no longer be accessed or controlled by the XSCF.
Automated Response
- If the resource that is inaccessible is one of the sensors (it may be the temperature sensor), then all the fans on the box are turned to high speed.
Impact
- If the resource that is inaccessible is one of the controller or the seeprom, then the FRU is deconfigured the next time the box is restarted (after a box restart or poweron).
If the resource that is inaccessible is SPD-ROM on a DIMM, then The DIMM is deconfigured once the domain using the DIMM reboots. This means that an entire bank of memory (either 4 DIMMs or 8 DIMMs, depending upon the configuration) is deconfigured.
If the resource that is inaccessible is one of the sensors, then nothing is deconfigured.
Indicted Hardware
- The FRU is marked for replacement.
Suggested Action for System Administrator
- The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.
Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
