Type
- Hardware Fault
- device.inserted
Severity
- Major
Description
-
A fault occurred due to the presence of a FRU being unexpectedly detected.
This fault can occur either due to a hardware fault where the presence detect signal on the FRU suddenly appears, or due to a FRU being inserted into the system without an addfru or replacefru operation.
The FRUs whose presence can be suddenly detected are listed below:
- A Power Supply Unit (PSU) or FAN (M12-2 or M12-2S systems), or XBU (for M12-2S or XB-Box): 018B0010
- A Power Supply Unit (PSU) or FAN (for M12-1, M12-2 or M12-2S systems), or XBU (for M12-2S or XB-Box): 018B0010
- Building Block (for M12-2S or XB-Box): 01A10012, 01A10013
- A PSU (for PCI expansion box): 11000021
- A FAN (for PCI expansion box): 1100003B
- A link cable (for PCI expansion box): 11000045
Detection of Building Block can be caused by connecting a BB control cable.
Automated Response
- No immediate action is taken, but the FRU that has been detected will not be configured into the system.
If this not a newly inserted FRU, then the platform administrator should schedule a service action.
Impact
- Nothing is deconfigured, and the newly detected FRU will not be configured into the system.
Indicted Hardware
- Newly detected FRU is the suspect.
Suggested Action for System Administrator
- The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.
Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
