Severity

Major

Description

Fault due to serious error detected by the MAC sub-chip within itself.

This fault affects the entire MAC sub-chip. The domain will be affected by this serious error in one of the following ways:

  • A CPU or an IOC may get a UE, and the domain may panic
  • A specific feature of the MAC, such as memory patrol, may stop working
  • Accessing MAC registers from the domain may fail, returning the invalid bit

Automated Response

No immediate action is taken. The administrator should ensure that the affected CPU is removed from the domain configuration.

Impact

For M12-1 systems, the memory associated with this MAC sub-chip is deconfigured (4 DIMMs) after the domain using the MAC sub-chip reboots.

For M12-2/M12-2S systems, the memory associated with this MAC and the memory associated with the MAC this MAC sub-chip is striping with is deconfigured (8 DIMMs total) after the domains using the MAC chip reboot.

Indicted Hardware

For M12-1 systems, the Motherboard is marked for replacement
For M12-2/M12-2S systems, the CMUU or CMUL, where affected CPU chip is mounted, is marked for replacement.

Suggested Action for System Administrator

The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.

Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
