Purpose
Provide additional information for message ID: M12-memory.bank.err
Fujitsu fault code:
0200140b
Scope
Details
Type
- Hardware Fault
- memory.bank.err
Severity
- Minor
Description
-
Fault due to DIMM errors detected by Power On Self Test (POST).
The fault can be due to one of the following conditions:
- The number of non-permanent correctable errors (PCEs) on a single DIMM exceeds a specified threshold
- The number of permanent correctable errors (PCEs) on a single DIMM exceeds a specified threshold
- The number of uncorrectable errors (UEs) on a single DIMM exceeds a specified threshold
Automated Response
- The physical partition using this DIMM (that is, using the memory bank this DIMM belongs to) is reset to deconfigure the DIMM.
Impact
-
The memory associated with this memory bank is deconfigured (4 DIMMs for M12-1, 8 DIMMs for M12-2/M12-2S).
Note: DIMM UEs cannot be isolated to a single DIMM, but can only be isolated to a pair of DIMMs. When POST detects a UE for a DIMM, this UE is counted against both DIMMs. Thus, if there are an excessive number of memory UEs, it is likely that two DIMMs will get this fault event.
Indicted Hardware
- The DIMM is marked for replacement. It is also possible that the DIMM is not seated correctly.
For M12-1 systems, there is a slight chance the MBU is at fault, but this FRU does not appear on the suspect list.
For M12-2/M12-2S systems, there is a slight chance the CMUU or CMUL, where the suspicious DIMM is mounted, is at fault, but this FRU does not appear on the suspect list.
These thresholds are significantly higher than the thresholds for faults to detect DIMM failure. In other words, this fault should rarely occur -- the DIMM with the problem should have been marked as faulty and replaced prior to this fault arising.
Suggested Action for System Administrator
- The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.
Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
