Purpose

Oracle Exalogic is an integrated hardware and software system designed to provide a complete platform for a wide range of application types and widely varied workloads. It combines optimized Oracle Fusion Middleware software like WebLogic server, JRockit, Coherence with industry-standard Sun Server and Storage hardware and InfiniBand networking. The purpose of this document is to provide specific information around January 2017 Patch Set Update (PSU) for that system.

Scope

The target audience of this document are engineers and system administrators who plan to apply the Exalogic PSU.

This document provides the following:

README files that are included in the January 2017 PSU for convenience. These can be used for reference without having to download the PSU first
Known issues with the PSU - these provide a list of known issues along with workarounds/solutions, if available. Engineers and administrators planning to apply the PSU should ensure to review these before applying the PSU

This document will be kept up-to-date with updates to errata and known issues.

NOTE:

It is the recommendation of Exalogic Development and Support that the Exalogic racks be upgraded to the latest PSU available. In particular, customers running on the January 2017 PSU are strongly recommended to take advantage of the issues addressed in later PSU's.

If, for some reason, it is not possible to follow this best practice and a rack needs to stay on the January 2017 PSU release, the EMOC Cumulative Patch 25919962 mentioned in "POST PATCH RECOMMENDATION" section below should be applied as a priority, once a backup has been taken.

POST PATCH RECOMMENDATION

In Exalogic racks running January 2017 Virtual (EECS 2.0.6.2.170117), a few incidents have been reported of observing "Algorithm negotiation fail" errors in EMOC cacao logs resulting in the inability to start guest vServers from EMOC. The discovery of Compute Nodes ILOMs from EMOC also fails. Refer to the following MOS Note for details:

As a proactive measure, we recommend applying the EMOC Cumulative Patch mentioned in above note following the upgrade of the rack to January 2017 PSU.

Before patching, verify that the cluster heartbeat timeout is set correctly, as documented in the Document ID : 1995593.1 - Increase O2CB Cluster Heartbeat Timeout on Exalogic Virtual
