Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

The "Environmental Status" section of the 'prtdiag -v' output from the control domain reports some PDECB sensors as "disabled".

For instance, from Host1 from a M7-8 server with 2 pdomains :

host1:~# prtdiag -v
System Configuration: Oracle Corporation sun4v SPARC M7-8

...

============================ Environmental Status ============================

...

Current sensors:

SYS/PDECB3/ECB I_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB0/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB5/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB7/ECB I_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB2/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB4/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB6/ECB I_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB1/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB3/ECB V_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB0/ECB V_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB5/ECB V_OUT ok

SYS/PDECB4/ECB V_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB6/ECB V_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB1/ECB V_OUT ok

Details

This is expected when no CMIOU is installed in the slot; so the respective PDECB (Power distribution electronic circuit breaker) sensors are disabled.

There is one PDECB for each CMIOU. All of the PDECBs are present even if there is no CMIOU installed. The PDECB is a separate component.

Unless there is FMA event/log indicating a fault on the PDECB, there is no action needed.

From Host1 from a M7-8 server with 2 pdomains. Only some CMIOUs are installed :

-> show -d target /Servers/PDomains/PDomain_0/System/DCUs/DCU_0

/Servers/PDomains/PDomain_0/System/DCUs/DCU_0
Targets:
CMIOU_0
CMIOU_1
CMIOU_2

-> show -d target /Servers/PDomains/PDomain_1/System/DCUs/DCU_1

/Servers/PDomains/PDomain_1/System/DCUs/DCU_1
Targets:
CMIOU_4
CMIOU_5

As a result, from the 'prtdiag -v' output :

# prtdiag -v | grep PDECB
...
SYS/PDECB3/ECB I_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB0/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB5/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB7/ECB I_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB2/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB4/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB6/ECB I_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB1/ECB I_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB3/ECB V_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB0/ECB V_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB5/ECB V_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB7/ECB V_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB2/ECB V_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB4/ECB V_OUT ok
SYS/PDECB6/ECB V_OUT disabled
SYS/PDECB1/ECB V_OUT ok

All of the PDECB sensors for the not-installed CMIOUs are reported as Disabled.

From ILOM :

-> show /SYS/PDECB3/ECB/V_OUT

/SYS/PDECB3/ECB/V_OUT
Targets:

Properties:
type = Voltage
class = Threshold Sensor
value = Disabled
upper_nonrecov_threshold = 15.190 Volts
upper_critical_threshold = N/A
upper_noncritical_threshold = 14.000 Volts
lower_noncritical_threshold = 10.640 Volts
lower_critical_threshold = N/A
lower_nonrecov_threshold = 9.380 Volts
alarm_status = indeterminate

-> show /SYS/PDECB2/ECB/V_OUT

/SYS/PDECB2/ECB/V_OUT
Targets:

Properties:
type = Voltage
class = Threshold Sensor
value = 12.400 Volts
upper_nonrecov_threshold = 15.190 Volts
upper_critical_threshold = N/A
upper_noncritical_threshold = 14.000 Volts
lower_noncritical_threshold = 10.640 Volts
lower_critical_threshold = N/A
lower_nonrecov_threshold = 9.380 Volts
alarm_status = cleared
