Upgrade Preparation Process Flow

 PROCESS FLOW 3

Initial Scheduling

  • Customer initiates a new upgrade Service Request (SR) with Oracle.
  • Oracle team receives SR and verifies the warranty / hardware of the product nodes.
  • If the support contract is active, and hand off is complete, we can proceed to look at dates and resources.
  • Once we have assigned a resource, we can set up a Kick-Off Call to discuss the following:
    • Access
    • Software Downloads
    • Health Checks
    • Firmware USB Requirements
    • Maintenance Window
    • When were the servers last rebooted? If more than 200 days, a cold reboot will be required prior to any upgrade activity.

Required Materials

The following materials and information are needed to execute an upgrade:

  • Capability to log into the DSR Network OAM servers with Administrator privileges.
  • User logins, passwords, IP addresses and other administration information.
  • VPN access to the customer’s network is required if that is the only method to log into the OAM servers.
  • Direct access to the blades/RMS Integrated Lights Out (iLO)/XMI IP addresses (whichever is applicable) from the workstations directly connected to the DSR servers is required.

Software Downloads

Firmware

Customers who have purchased hardware through Oracle/Tekelec can download ISOs from the Oracle Beehive Workspace

If the customer does not have access to the page, the DSR Upgrades Coordinator will need to request access from the Workspace Admin internally.

To request access for the customer, send an e-mail to cgbu-cotsfw-support_us_grp@oracle.com with the Subject: [Cotsfw_partner] Customer Access to Firmware Needed for <Customer Name>. In the e-mail Body, provide the customer's name, e-mail address, and that hardware was purchased from Oracle/Tekelec.

NOTE: Customers who have purchased hardware through a third party (i.e. HP) are responsible for coordinating with the vendor separately for firmware upgrades.

DSR

Complete instructions for DSR software downloads can be found here: How to Download DSR Software from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (OSDC) (Doc ID 2180009.1).

NOTE: Although the Engineer may assist with the Firmware USB creation process, the DSR file downloads from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (OSDC) eDelivery are the customer's responsibility. Oracle does not have permission to download on behalf of the customer.

Resources

  • Doc ID 2180009.1: How to Download DSR Software from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (OSDC)
  • Select from appropriate release in the Customer Documentation for the following.
    • Upgrade Guide (MOP): Provides estimated times, as well as a breakdown of procedures.
    • Release Notes: Provides supported Upgrade Paths, as well as Load Lineup.

Important Considerations Before Upgrade:

  • Doc ID 2108144.1: DSR 7.1.0 or 7.1.1 should not be used by any customer using PCA or P-DRA
  • Doc ID 2115404.1: Security/Access Changes in DSR 6.0 and Later
  • PM&C Incremental Upgrade: Page 13 states: "Upon completion of the upgrade to PM&C 6.2 or later, the GUI administrative user formerly known as "pmacadmin" will become "guiadmin". This is only a renaming of the standard administrative account, not a different account; the account access privileges will be retained from the “pmacadmin” account.

Pre-Upgrade Checklist

  • SR created
  • Health Check(s) completed and passed
  • USB(s) created and in place
  • Oracle Software Delivery Cloud (OSDC) files placed on the NOAM /var/TKLC/bd/filemgmt/directory
  • Customer Point of Contact provided (name, e-mail, phone)
