SL3000/SL8500 - Impact of the Release of RoHS 2016 Cards

Details

Several months ago the following information was provided. It was published in the SL8500 section but also applies to the SL3000. The first impact will be on new machines requiring replacement parts that will soon ship with the new RoHS 2016 hardware. However, as non-RoHS 2016 spares are depleted, current hardware will also be impacted. It will be several more months before this becomes a problem but you need to encourage your customers to move to FRS-8.51 and FRS-4.40 firmwares. Failure to do so may force an upgrade to the newer firmware before being able to replace a failed component. Below is the original message and some additional information.

(Original notice from February 2016) - In several months there will be some new PCB boards released for the SL8500. They will meet the new 2016 RoHS standards. Due to several changes on the boards they will require 8.51+ microcode. Please review the following from the FRS-8.51 release notes in preparation for this change. These new cards will appear in new-build subsystems first.

The new RoHS 2016 cards, HBCR2, HBT2 and HBB2, are incompatible with library code versions less than FRS_8.51.
Do NOT downgrade library code with these cards in the machine.
Do NOT install these cards in libraries with code versions at FRS_8.50 or lower.

FRS_8.51 is fully downward compatible. No hardware needs to be replaced in order to upgrade to FRS8.51.

The above information also applies to the SL3000 and new FRS-4.40 firmware that supports the RoHS 2016 hardware.

Cards and assemblies affected:

HBB to HBB2 will impact H-Bots, Tall-Bots, HBZ modules and PTPs
HBT to HBT2
HBCR to HBCR2
PUX to PUX2

Part / Firmware Usage:

RoHS 2016 Firmware (FRS- 8.51+, FRS 4.40+)

All hardware versions are compatible.

Non-RoHS 2016 Firmware (FRS-8.50 and lower, FRS-4.32 and lower)

Only Non-RoHS 2016 hardware is compatible.

HBB found in H-Bots, Tall-Bots, HBZ modules and PTPs
HBT
HBCR
PUX
