Purpose

Appliance firmware may be referred with different naming conventions.

And it may sometimes be difficult to understand these versions strings.

This document helps to understand the naming convention for the Appliance Firmware.

Details

There are multiple ways to get the current appliance firmware version :

1. CLI: configuration version show

2. CLI: maintenance system updates show

3. BUI: Maintenance > System > Software Updates

4. BUI: Sun Oracle Icon on the top left corner

To explain - with a simple example - we will take the following version string :

2013.06.05.5.2,1-1.1

This string can be understood with the following convention :

2013.06.05.<minor-version>.<micro-version>,<external-build-number>

Major Release : 2013.06.05 [ Also known as OS8 or AK8 or 2013.1 ]

Minor Release : 2013.06.05.5

Micro Release : 2013.06.05.5.2 [or 2013.1.5.2 / AK 8.5.2 / 2013.1 Update 5.2 / 8.5 Micro 2 ]

IDR Naming: eg.: package : ak-nas-2013-06-05-5-2-1-2-2-3-1-nd.pkg.gz

This is 8.5.2 IDR# 3.1

2013.06.05.5.2,1-2.1.2.3.1 (here 1-2 identifies it as an IDR. Version IDR# 3.1)
