Purpose

Provide additional information for message ID: ILOM-8000-F7

Details

Type: Alert

   alert.ilom.fm.ip-transport.link-down

Severity: Major

Description:

The link between the host and the Service Processor (SP) has experienced a heartbeat failure.

Automated Response:

A corresponding diagnosis of this problem may also occur on the host, under message id FMD-8000-ET.

ILOM firmware running on the Service Processor monitors that heartbeats from the SP are being received by the host. If heartbeats fail to arrive for 10 minutes a 'link-down' ILOM-8000-F7 alert is generated. If subsequently the link is re-established, ILOM generates a 'link-up' alert, which serves to clear the previous 'link-down' alert.

ILOM is immediately informed when the host has taken a reset, and directly monitors host power to know when the host is powered off. In these cases, ILOM will cease monitoring the host.

If ILOM is gracefully reset, the connection is gracefully closed. If ILOM hangs or panics, the 10-minute timer on the host will expire and a FMD-8000-ET alert will be generated.

Impact:

Various functions which use the Service Processor link will not be operational. The host and Service Processor ILOM fault managers will not be able to report total system health.

For systems with links to redundant SPs, these events may trigger SP failover.

Suggested Action for System Administrators:

This event is essentially informational in nature and may not indicate a fault or problem in the product that requires any specific administrative or service action to be taken in response. However, if the problem persists and the link is deemed to be non-functional, refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required:

NOTE: This message ID will not result in a service request being automatically submitted by ASR.
