In this Document
Applies to:SPARC M7-16 - Version All Versions and laterSPARC M7-8 - Version All Versions and later SPARC M8-8 - Version All Versions and later Information in this document applies to any platform. PurposeThe intent of this document is to provide the reader with the available versions of the SPARC M8 and SPARC M7 Series Servers System Firmware (SysFW) and to inform where and how to obtain the appropriate images. Scope
DetailsAlways refer to the patch's README file for information about installation requirements and special instructions. See the following document for the minimum supported firmware, software, solaris, patches and requirements for minimal Solaris installation for the SPARC M7 Series servers : 1967047.1 After downloading the appropriate patch, download the package flash image onto your Service Processor using the procedure as described in the installation instructions file. The Host will have to be restarted to apply the latest images of Hypervisor/OBP/POST. This document also provides information about the Hardware Programmables image and SP Fallback image. Firmware Downloads and Release History for Oracle Systems : http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/systems/patches/firmware/release-history-jsp-138416.html#M7-8 System FirmwareThe System Firmware consists of the following components :
The SysFW image is composed of :
The following matrix identifies which SysFW images (and components versions) are available and where to obtain them:
From ILOM, it's possible to check the components version as following : -> show -t /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/
Target | Property | Value ----------------------------------------+-----------------------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------------------------- /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | component | ILOM Firmware_0 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | type | ILOM Firmware Firmware_0 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | version | 3.2.5.5.d Firmware_0 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | component | System Firmware_1 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | type | POST Firmware_1 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | version | POST 5.2.3 2015/08/21 19:24 Firmware_1 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | component | System Firmware_2 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | type | OBP Firmware_2 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | version | OpenBoot 4.37.3.b 2015/10/01 12:27 Firmware_2 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | component | System Firmware_3 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | type | Hypervisor Firmware_3 | | /System/Firmware/Other_Firmware/ | version | Hypervisor 1.14.3.d 2015/10/01 12:59 SP Fallback imageThe S11.3 SP Fallback miniroot image, if necessary to be re-loaded on the SP, can be obtain via patch from MOS. See Oracle Solaris 11.3 Support Repository Updates (SRU) Index (Doc ID 2045311.1) for pointers to the Fallback Boot Images. The patch includes a sol-11_3-fallback_boot-sparc.pkg file and a README.txt with instructions about installation of the pkg file. The image is common to T7 and M7 Series Servers. See SPARC M7 Series Servers Administration Guide and SPARC M7 Series Servers Installation Guide from the SPARC M7 Series Servers Documentation Library. Note : starting from S11.3 SRU 3.6, the Fallback image is available from Solaris as well. So if the host(s) is running S11.3 SRU 3.6 or later and the firmware/system/M7-T7/fallback-boot package is installed then the pkg file can be updated using the pkg file available in the host (/var/firmware/system/fallback-boot/). Example from a host running S11.3 SRU 5.6 # pkg info fallback-boot # ls -la /var/firmware/system/fallback-boot/p22650986_11_3_5_6_0_generic/Firmware/Fallback_Boot/sol-11_3_5_6_0-fallback_boot-sparc.pkg From the Active SP, use 'load -source protocol://host//var/firmware/system/fallback-boot/p22650986_11_3_5_6_0_generic/Firmware/Fallback_Boot/sol-11_3_5_6_0-fallback_boot-sparc.pkg'.

Where to locate patches, updates, and/or firmware images? Product patches, updates and firmware are available for download from My Oracle Support, on the Patches and Updates tab across the top of the page (below where your user name or email is displayed once logged in). SEARCH TIPS: Search for the patch using the (Product or Family) Advanced Search option and choose to filter the results based on your system type: After selecting the appropriate system, the next drop-down menu will ask you to sort through a list of releases and select the desired release (we suggest the latest).
