Purpose

This document describes the supported configurations when adding expansion trays to the following arrays:

Sun Storage 2510 Array
Sun Storage 2530 Array
Sun Storage 2540 Array
Sun Storage 2530-M2 Array
Sun Storage 2540-M2 Array

Details

The original Sun Storage 2500 arrays use only the 2501 expansion tray. The second generation Sun Storage 2500-M2 arrays use only the 2501-M2 expansion tray.

The 2501 and 2501-M2 expansion trays are not interchangeable. It is not supported to use a 2501 expansion tray with a 2500-M2 array. It is not supported to use a 2501-M2 expansion tray with a 2500 array.

From Sun StorageTek 2500 Series Array Release Notes, Release 6.10

"The StorageTek 2540, 2530, and 2510 arrays, along with the StorageTek 2501 expansion module, make up the 2500 family of arrays."

From Sun Storage 2500-M2 Arrays Hardware Release Notes, Release 6.10

"The Sun Storage 2530-M2 and 2540-M2 arrays can be expanded by adding Sun Storage 2501-M2 array expansion trays."
