Purpose

The Exalytics Deployment Guide is a white paper that explains the different types of deployment scenarios that are supported for the Exalytics platform.  It is applicable to Exalytics X series servers (X-2-4, X3-4, etc.) running Patchset 4 and higher, and T5-8 servers.  The document covers OBIEE, TimesTen and EPM products.  The white paper contains the following topics:

  •     Performance, Scalability, Sizing
  •     Software Certification
  •     Deployment Scenarios
  •     Hardware Solution
  •     Installation Types
  •     Patching of Software
  •     Disk Storage Considerations
  •     Backup and Recovery / Disaster Recovery

The white paper also includes three additional files describing how to install multiple instances on a single machine, OBIEE High Availability Setup and information on Oracle Clusterware + OCFS2 + SAN Shares with EMC.

Scope

This white paper is intended for system administrators, DBAs, system architects, and any personnel involved with installations on an Oracle Exalytics system.

This task requires advanced expertise in systems management, the Linux operating system, Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE), Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Essbase and TimesTen.

The scenarios described in this document have been tested with Exalytics PS4 since it was the most current version available during the test cycles.  While not specifically tested, these scenarios are applicable to Exalytics PS4 and future patchsets.
