Seagate drives (ST3325031NS) may become inaccessible following platform power on. |
A Seagate firmware issue can result in hard drives failing to initialize following power on, this is not recoverable and requires a disk replacement. This affects the ST3250310NS drive on the Sun Fire X2100 M2 - 540-7511 / 390-0411. Only drives manufactured prior to 01/12/2008 are affected. |
This issue is addressed by updating drives to the SU0D firmware version available from Patch 140698-01 |
Security Vulnerability |
A security vulnerability in the Sun Fire X2100M2 and Sun Fire X2200M2 implementation of IPMI may allow an unprivileged ipmitool(1m) user to gain unauthorized administrative privileges and then be able to reset or power off a local or remote Sun Fire X2100M2 or Sun Fire X2200M2 server. 250GB Hitachi drives failing |
Some 250GB Hitachi drives are falling prematurely due to system fan vibrations |
Later versions of the 250GB Hitachi drives have a revised assembly that doesn't include a dampening plate, this makes the drive more susceptible to vibration caused by the system fans. Latest system firmware updates change fan control table to decrease vibration. Update the SP firmware to 3.10 or above. |

Memory errors |
On Sun Fire x2200 M2 systems, it is possible that when the "Power Now" feature is enabled in the system BIOS, that ECC errors may intermittently occur during the self-test operation. Misdiagnosis of these errors may lead to unnecessary hardware replacement.
Examples:
IPMI Output
1 | 03/20/2007 | 06:21:22 | Memory CPU0 DIMM1 | Correctable ECC | Asserted
2 | 03/20/2007 | 06:21:22 | Memory CPU0 DIMM1 | Correctable ECC | Asserted
3 | 03/20/2007 | 06:21:22 | Memory CPU0 DIMM1 | Correctable ECC | Asserted
4 | 03/20/2007 | 06:21:22 | Memory CPU0 DIMM1 | Correctable ECC | Asserted
