Seagate drives (ST3325031NS) may become inaccessible following platform power on. |
A Seagate firmware issue can result in hard drives failing to initialize following power on, this is not recoverable and requires a disk replacement. This affects the ST3250310NS drive on the Sun Fire X2100 M2 - 540-7511 / 390-0411. Only drives manufactured prior to 01/12/2008 are affected. |
This issue is addressed by updating drives to the SU0D firmware version available from Patch 140698-01 |
Red Hat Linux 4.5: Not able to configure file systems on Hitachi disks, the system would go to a hung state. |
Red Hat Knowledgebase Article 10897 (RedHat Login required)
RedHat Linux 4.5 added Native Command Queueing and with some Hitachi drives it does not work.
|
This issue had been determined to be due to an incorrect NVidia driver which is fixed and available in later Red Hat Linux releases. Please contact your Red Hat Support Vendor for any assistance or questions. . |
Disk read error during Pc-Check V6.05b diagnostics test |
Running Hard Disk read tests using Pc-Check V6.05b results in a failure output:
Failure on Read Test is 'Data Rate Failure' 778Kbits 5 sec.

Unable to install Solaris 10 1/06 |
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th CDs of Solaris 10 1/06 Release may not install on systems equipped with a DV-28SL internal CD/DVD drive.
This problem was introduced by the newboot project. When the system is booted from disc, install-discovery is no longer saving the device in /tmp/.cdroot. Because of this, install-begin does not know which device the system is booted from and uses only the output from find_device to pick the drive to use. Find_device outputs two devices, and install-begin uses the first one, but if the second device is being used, then when the system reboots, the launcher is looking in the wrong place for the CD.
|
This is due to an issue with the CD installer shipped with Solaris 10 1/06. |
Util.exe dosn't work |
The util.exe command line option for setting up the IP, Netmask, and Gateway addresses does not work. The GUI will work.
|
Use util.exe from Supplemental CD 1.2 and later |
Installation of Solaris pre-install image appears to hang. |
This issue has been noted several times and each time the proper procedures were not followed. |
You must connect a terminal session to the serial port as that is where the output will be directed to once the OS starts to load. See the Server Getting Started Guide |
No pxeboot possible |
Cannot trigger pxeboot via serial connection. F12 key does not work over COM1 connection. |
Fixed in Supplemental CD 1.2 and later |
Sideband NIC usage is destroyed when bge driver attaches. |
Prevents the management controller from being reached when Solaris is running with the bge interface active. The reason for the loss of network connectivity is that the Solaris driver does not cooperate with the ASF/IPMI firmware that runs on the RX RISC processor inside the Broadcom adapter.

Fixed in Patch 122027-08 and later |
Garbled characters in BIOS menus |
When the PCI-E Dual Gigabit Ethernet UTP is inserted into the Sun Fire X2100, it causes corruption of the character display within the boot selection menu. This corrupts the display of the onboard net boot-device. If the card is removed, the onboard boot-device is clearly displayed as Nvidia Boot Agent |
Fixed in BIOS 1.1.2 and later |
Unbootable system with RAID enabled and X7280A installed |
With Nvidia RAID, both onboard Ethernet ports enabled, Video and the additional NIC card there is not enough room in the expansion ROM to support this configuration |
Disable RAID or the Nvidia NIC to free up expansion ROM space |
Navigating the Diagnostics screens in PC-Check is difficult over serial connection in xterm or dtterm window. |
Using the arrow keys to navigate only momentarily flashed on the current menu item, it does not stay highlighted like when using an attached USB keyboard. It is very difficult to know where you are in a menu page. |
No Solution or Workaround available. Pay very close attention when using the arrow keys you can see the cursor flash. |
F2 Key to enter BIOS not working through Serial port |
Using F2 key to access BIOS menu does not work when using serial port access |
Using the TAB key will work like the F2 key. Hit ESC key twice to back out of the current screen instead of once. |
AC power removal resets time to 12/31/1969
|
When removing AC power the clock setting in the SMDC card is reset to 12/31/1969
|
Fixed in Supplemental 1.6 and later |
CMOS settings can be lost after a power loss |
After unplugging the AC power cord or an AC power loss the CMOS settings can be lost. The failure effect is that the customer sees a screen that tells them that there is a
CMOS checksum error
and have to manually intervene to continue the boot up.

Fixed in BIOS 1.1.5 and later |

Solution 1: Use Device Manager to view the properties of the channel that the drive is connected to.The Advanced Settings tab may show that the current transfer mode for the drive is "PIO Mode" Should this be the case direct the customer to the hot fix on the Microsoft website. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817472/en-us
Solution 2: RAID Degraded on Windows HDD Mode Change (From the Sun Fire X2100 Server Release Notes) After multiple time-out or CRC errors, RAID degrades when Windows changes a HDD from DMA mode to PIO mode. To resolve this issue, upgrade the RAID driver to version 6.6.6, which is available on Supplemental CD 1.7.
