Seagate drives (ST3325031NS) may become inaccessible following platform power on. |
A Seagate firmware issue can result in hard drives failing to initialize following power on, this is not recoverable and requires a disk replacement. This affects the ST3250310NS drive on the Sun Fire X2100 M2 - 540-7511 / 390-0411. Only drives manufactured prior to 01/12/2008 are affected. |
This issue is addressed by updating drives to the SU0D firmware version available from Patch 140698-01 |
Mismatched console redirection settings can result in the system appearing to hang. |
Mismatching the BIOS and SP console redirection settings can lead to the console session appearing to hang when in fact it has merely redirected to a different 'output' |
SP console redirection to ttya (Serial management DB9 port) BIOS setting BIOS/Advanced/IPMI External COM Port = system show AgentInfo ConsoleMux=system SP console redirection to ttyb (via the SP) BIOS setting BIOS/Advanced/IPMI External COM Port = BMC show AgentInfo ConsoleMux=agent |
250GB Hitachi drives failing |
Some 250GB Hitachi drives are failing prematurely due to system fan vibrations |
Later versions of the 250GB Hitachi drives have a revised assembly that doesn't include a dampening plate, this makes the drive more susceptible to vibration caused by the system fans. Latest system firmware updates change fan control table to decrease vibration. Update the SP firmware to 3.10 or above

Security Vulnerability |
A security vulnerability in the Sun Fire X2100M2 and Sun Fire X2200M2 implementation of IPMI may allow an unprivileged ipmitool(1m) user to gain unauthorized administrative privileges and then be able to reset or power off a local or remote Sun Fire X2100M2 or Sun Fire X2200M2 server. Further details see <Document: 1000482.1>

Reverse numbering order of NVidia MAC Address |
On a limited number of early Sun Fire X2100 M2 systems the NVidia MAC Addresses were installed in a reverse numbering order. This reversed numbering has no effect on system performance or Ethernet functionality. However this problem could potentially confuse an operator into mistakenly reconfiguring the wrong Ethernet interface when performing a service action. |
A utility to fix this issue is included in the latests versions of the Tools and Drivers CD To run the utility and fix the MAC addresses boot the CDROM and choose Option 4 from the menu to "Exit to DOS" The utility is in the MAC_FRU folder, to reprogram the FRU ID PROM run NVIDIA.exe once the utility is done remove the CDROM and reboot the server. |
ELOM reports axial fan is failing |
Errors reported by SP Event logs:
Critical 2007/05/10 19:09:56 Axial Fan 0 speed is too low(Value=0.000 RPM: Threshold=1952.000 RPM)
|
On the Sun Fire X2100 M2 there are two axial fan connectors but only one fan unit for the PCI slots. One connector is white and the other black. The latest SP versions do not monitor the fan speed on the white connector but the connector still provides power so that the fan still functions. Before replacing this fan due to the error make sure that the fan is correctly connected to the black connector.
Solution: Update the system to the Latest SP Firmware and re-test. If the axial fan failure still shows then open the system chassis and swap the fan connector to the other connector. This should alleviate the issue.

NGE ports don't work with Solaris 10 |
This only happenes on when Nvidia PXE agent is first boot device and then pxe install server does not response it, so the NGE Chipset in an uncertain status and can not be recovered by chip reset
|
Workaround:
1. Power off the machine for a while. 2. Do not make the nge port as the first boot device if you are not to do pxe install.

Native Command Queueing (NCQ) does not currently work with the MCP55 chipset. |
Native Command Queueing (NCQ) does not currently work with the MCP55 chipset. Some customers may refer to the info on Redhat site: http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/FAQ_46_10897.shtm On X2200 M2 AND X2100 M2 it is not the disk that is the issue. |
This is an issue with the lack of an NVidia driver which is being worked by NVidia and the various OS teams. |
