Purpose

This document outlines the top non-hardware issues our customers encounter on the Sun Fire X4600/4600 M2 Server, with the firmware version which fixes that issue or the workaround

SymptomDetailsResolution/Workaround
High system load being seen on SLES 10

The issue is happening when "hald" tries polling the virtual USB floppy device provided by the ILOM

Resolution: Prevent the hald from polling the virtual USB floppy. (Refer to <Document: 1353455.1> )
Enabling all BIOS Hardware debug options will cause system to not boot (No POST)

Enabling following options from the Advanced BIOS Menu will cause system not to post.

  • Shutdown on Hardware Errors
  • ILOM based Diagnostics
  • Logs Diagnostics on all resets

ONLY two options that should be enabled in debug are

  • ILOM Based Diagnostics
  • Shutdown on Hardware Errors.

Issue fixed in SW 2.2.

Resolution: Update ILOM firmware to  SW 2.2 or later.

Cannot access 2nd RAID device within the LSI BIOS. 

 Alt+N does not work through serial redirected console.

Workaround: Use the Web GUI method of remote console. To send "Alt+N" from web GUI, user needs to mark "Alt" box under pull-down menu then press "N" key only. After sending "Alt +n" key, user has to un-mark "Alt" box.

Issue fixed in SW 2.0

Resolution: Update ILOM firmware to  SW 2.0 or later.

Pricedure to reset ILOM Password 

Only for ILOM 2.x.x.x version

Change the password of ILOM.

  1. Shutdown Server
  2. Disconnect Power cords.
  3. Put jumper on P20 (on motherboard)
  4. Plug the power cords and power on the system, ILOM password will change to default value: changeme.
  5. Login to ILOM and reset password to your choice.

Later power down server and unplug cords - remove P20 jumper.
