Purpose
List FICON, Replication and ASR ports configuration restrictions for planning purposes.
Details
FICON, Replication and ASR ports planning and configuration.
Summary of things to consider when planning VSM6 ports/paths:
- VTCS has an overall 32 device limit per VTSS. This includes CLINKs, RTDs, VRTDs and can be mixed as needed but can't exceed 32 total.
- CLINKs (ipport/ippath/iproute) --
* VSM6 - max 16 targets per VTSS (not per node)
* VSM5 - max 8 targets per VTSS (not per node)
* Dual paths are not counted as two toward 32 VTCS total (if not direct connect). Can config one path to same target on each VSM6 node and counts as one toward VTCS max.
* Each port within VSM6 node must be on separate subnet (future release to incorporate IPMP to avoid this requirement)
- VRTDs (ipport/ippath/iproute) --
* VRTDs (VLE) - max 16 IP targets per VTSS (not per node)
* Dual paths are not counted as two toward 32 VTCS total (if not direct connect). Can config one path to same target on each VSM6 node and counts as one toward VTCS max.
* Each port within VSM6 node must be on separate subnet (future release to incorporate IPMP to avoid this requirement)
- RTDs (ficonpath) --
* Physical RTDs - max 16 FICON targets per node, 4 per FICON port
* Unlike IP paths, dual FICON paths are counted as two toward VTCS max
- ASR (ipadm/route) --
* Currently net10 configured via Solaris ipadm command
* Uses default route
Note: With default route defined, verify all Replication (REP) ports have static routes define or default route may be used for replication causing performance issues.
