Purpose

 This document is written  to facilitate performing an AC power cycle on the T3/T4/T5/S7/T7/T8 Servers

Details

 There are circumstances where part of an action plan  to resolve a system issue may require an AC power cycle, also known as a complete power cycle. This differs from power cycle initiated through ILOM commands such as "stop /SYS" as 3.3v standby power is always present in the system . You must unplug the AC power cords to perform a complete power cycle. It is recommended that  all the AC cords are removed from where they connect to the system itself and remain all unplugged for 75 seconds or greater

There is an additional step required for T7-1, T7-2, T7-4, S7-2, S7-2L, T8-1, T8-2, and T8-4 Systems:

For all scenarios where an AC power cycle, or AC power down is required for a T7-x, S7-x and T8-x server please use the following steps prior to following the process above to pull the AC power cords

1) Enter the ILOM restricted shell.

Details about the ILOM Restricted can be found in document How to use Restricted Shell on ILOM 3.0.10 and later platforms (Doc ID 1302296.1)

Any user with the [a]dmin or the [s]ervice role can enter the Restricted Shell via the spsh shell.
No password is required to enter the Restricted Shell.

-> set SESSION mode=restricted

WARNING: The "Restricted Shell" account is provided solely
to allow Services to perform diagnostic tasks.

[(restricted_shell) T7-2-sp:~]#     <------  restricted shell prompt

2) Issue the "ac_off_sp" command

[(restricted_shell) T7-2-sp:~]# ac_off_sp

3) Follow process to remove AC power cords and wait 60 seconds before plugging them back in

Please refer the the system specific Server Administration Guides and Server Service manuals for proper shutdown procedures and AC cable inlet locations.
