This document contains the details of X3-2B (formerly Sun Blade X6270M3 Server module) and Netra X3-2B (formerly Sun Netra X6270M3 Server module) blades exhibiting false FMA faults SPX86-8003-PD on both CPUs.

Details

Title: X3-2B (formerly Sun Blade X6270M3 Server module) and Netra X3-2B (formerly Sun Netra X6270M3 Server module) blades exhibiting false FMA faults SPX86-8003-PD on both CPUs.

On power up the blade will see FMA fault fault.io.intel.iio.misc-vpp-fail on either or both CPUs at the same time.

The VPP is a "Virtual Pin Port" which connects between the SandyBridge IIO and the hotplug FPGA controller.

This issue occurs very intermittently but when a VPP error occurs, all the hotplug or cold plug operations for EMs and NEMs will fail.

Our product development team has stated these errors should be ignored.  If you see these errors then clear the FMA faults in ILOM and continue operation.

Please clear the faults in ILOM using following procedure:

To clear the faults do the below:

1. First start a fault management shell:

-> start /SP/faultmgmt/shell

2. Then clear the fault on both CPUs:

faultmgmtsp> fmadm acquit /SYS/MB/P0
faultmgmtsp> fmadm acquit /SYS/MB/P1
faultmgmtsp> exit

 The faults should be gone after this.

To permanently fix these errors from happening the firmware ILOM/BIOS needs to be upgraded to SW1.2 release Patch 16008446 for X3-2B (formerly Sun Blade X6270M3 Server module) and patch 16026069 for Netra X3-2B (formerly Sun Netra X6270M3 Server module).
