Purpose

This document defines how to collect ILOM snapshots via the ILOM GUI interface.

Scope

Details

Snapshot can be easily gathered via the ILOM's GUI if the ILOM's network port is configured & connected.  One accesses the GUI by entering the ILOM's IP Address into the URL of a Browser of a system which has access to the ILOM's network.  After logging in:

For ILOM 3.0 select the "Maintenance" Tab & "Snapshot" Subtab.

For ILOM 3.2 select the "ILOM Administration" Tab, the "Maintenance" SubTab & "Snapshot" page top tab.

Typically, the Normal Data Set is acceptable for problem resolution, but sometimes, the Oracle Support engineer will request one collected with the FRUID Data Set.  BEWARE: since collection using the FULL Data Set may also reboot the host system.

Please DO NOT collect the snapshot with option: "Collect Only Log Files From Data Set" enabled.  This mode is only to be used when Snapshot collection hangs or crashes & this mode severely limits the amount of data that's collected & is unusable by the Oracle Service Engineer.

"Change Dataset option to Normal"

Encrypted Output is not used often, but can be used as long as the encryption key is provided to the Oracle Service Engineer.

The typical method for transfer is via the browser, which will save the snapshot to a file on the server running the browser.

Please note that it takes roughly 5 minutes to collect the snapshot.  Collection activity is rather brisk for the first minute or two, but then appears to stall.  This is normal collection operation.
