ScopeThis will be used primarily by Field Support Engineers but in some cases the System Administrator may use the steps as well. DetailsIn some cases after a disk replacement when the BDA server is rebooted the server won't come back up and appears to be stuck. Checking in the ILOM the following "LSI MegaRaid SAS-MFI BIOS" screen may be seen. During the boot process, monitor the graphics console through the ILOM java console. When loading its BIOS ROM, the new RAID controller will detect the RAID configuration on the disks and may complain that it has a foreign configuration. This is expected. In case the ILOM for the server is not already up follow the steps below to bring the server up in ILOM. Note: After navigating to your selections with the tab key, press the space bar, to execute the option.
/opt/oracle/BDAMammoth/mammoth-<rack1name>.params
Look for a space separated list for: ILOM_NAMES=(...)
ILOM_IPS=(...) Determine the proper server name and log in with the web browser to the ILOM Server. Example format of the name: https://<rackname>bda<server number>-c.example.com Note: If a security certificate error is displayed click on "Continue to this website (not recommended)." If a message "This Connection is Untrusted" is displayed then click on, "I Understand the Risks" and continue with the confirmations to log in.
2. Login as root. The default password is welcome1. Note: The Launch Remote Console button may not be visible from all browsers. If this is not seen then switch to Internet Explorer to see the Launch Remote Console button.
5. A pop up will come up asking to open the file jnlpgenerator-16 with Java(TM) Web Start Launcher (default). Click OK. After clicking on OK, a pop up with "Oracle(R) Integrated Lights Out Manager Remote Console" will be displayed.
Below images will show the output displayed if you are running into this issue. This may result in seeing the output either in Scenario 1 or Scenario 2. Follow the steps to resolve the issue depending on which scenario is seen.
Scenario 1: 1. When the remote console is displayed a similar message to the following may be seen:
Or another similar message can be:
2. After hitting the "F" key the following screen may be seen. Note: Hitting the "F" key to import the foreign configuration does not erase any data. It just accepts the configuration that was already in place before the disk failed. No existing data is impacted.
By hitting any key to enter, a RED WARNING bar at the top "Failed to import Foreign Configuration" may be seen. This is because the RAID controller still has some Preserved Cache from the failed disk. 3. Click on "cancel" to cancel out and bring up the WebBios Utility. 4. When the RAID controller has some preserved cache that needs to be cleared, on the left menu of the WebBios Utility there will be an option that states "Clear Preserved Cache." Click on this to clear the Preserved Cache. Note that in some versions instead of "Clear Preserved Cache" you will see "Manage Preserved Cache" on the left. Click on this to clear the Preserved Cache.
5. Once this is done then you can continue to recreate the RAID LUNs using the Configuration Wizard or you can click on Keyboard in ILOM Remote Console then select Control Alt Delete and force the server to reboot again. Then hit the "F" key to import the foreign configuration.
Scenario 2: 1. When the remote console is displayed a similar message to the following may be seen: "All of the disks from your previous configuration are gone. If this is an unexpected message, then please power off your system and check your cables to ensure all disks are present. Press any key to continue, or 'C' to load the configuration utility." 2. Press any key to continue. 3. An Adapter selection screen may be seen with one adapter shown and a Start button. 4. Tab to select Start. 5. Then the following screen may be seen:
6. Tab to Discard Cache to select this option. 7. The following screen may be seen:
8. Click on Keyboard in ILOM Remote Console then select Control Alt Delete to force the server to reboot again.
