Type
- Hardware Fault
- device.removed
Severity
- Major
Description
-
A fault occurred due to a FRU's presence detect signal suddenly disappearing.
This fault can occur either due to a hardware fault, or due to a FRU being removed from the system without a replacefru or deletefru operation.
The FRUs whose presence detect signal disappearance can be detected as listed below:
- A Power Supply Unit (PSU) or FAN (for M10-1, M10-4 or M10-4S systems), or XBU (for M10-4S or XB-Box): 018B0020; - BB control cable (for M10-4S or XB-box): 01A10004, 01A10005 - DUAL cable (for M10-4S or XB-box): 01A10006, 01A10007 - A PSU (for PCI expansion box): 11000022, 11000023 - A FAN (for PCI expansion box): 1100003C, 1100003D - A link-cable (for PCI expansion box): 11000046, 11000047
Removal of link-cable can be detected on linkcard side and linkbrd side:
Detected by linkcard: 11000046 Detected by linkbrd: 11000047
Automated Response
- In all cases, if a FRU has not actually been physically removed from the system, then the platform administrator should schedule a service action.
If the FRU is a PSU: If there insufficient operational PSUs to power the box then the box is powered down. Otherwise, no action is taken.- If the FRU is a FAN: XSCF or microprocessor in PCI expansion box raise the fan speed to high for all the fans in the box.
- If the FRU is an XBU on a M10-4S system: Ppar using this building block will reset.
- If the FRU is an XBU on a XB-Box: The Ppars using this XBU will reset
- If the FRU is BB-control cable: No immediate action will be taken. But, XSCF may not be able to control this Building block.
- If the FRU is DUAL cable: No immediate action will be taken. But, master XSCF may lose the communication with standby XSCF.
- If the FRU is a linkcable: No immediate action will be taken. Domains using this PCI expansion box may lose communication on PCI Express fabric, with the possibility of a panic.
Impact
- If the FRU is a PSU, then the PSU will be deconfigured.
- If the FRU is a FAN, then nothing will be deconfigured. (Monitoring of FAN status will be stopped, but FAN will keep rotating if it physically exists)
- If the FRU is an XBU on a M10-4S system, then a XB way will be deconfigure on a Ppar using this building block.
- If the FRU is an XBU on a XB-Box, then a XB way will be deconfigured on Ppars using this XBU.
- If the FRU is BB-control cable, then a building block, which is connected by this BB control cable, will be deconfigured.
- If the FRU is DUAL cable, then standby XSCF will be deconfigured.
- If the FRU is a linkcable, then the PCI expansion box connected via this linkcable will be deconfigured.
Indicted Hardware
- Disappeared FRU is the suspect.
Suggested Action for System Administrator
- The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.
Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
