Purpose

MAC Statistics Counters show count values for FCS Error Frames and Jabber Frames

Details

When looking through a Oracle Fabric Interconnect 'tech-support' log after gathering diagnostic log bundle by running 'get-log-files -all' script noticed that under "MAC Statistics" there are values for FCS Error Frames and Jabber Frames, what does this mean?

Example Output:

## MAC Statistics - slot 14 #############################################################################

port 1 MAC stats:
Rx Octets                         = 319212461789680
Rx Ok Frames                      = 636804242835
Rx Unicast Frames                 = 581439853750
Rx Multicast Frames               = 39280913906
Rx Broadcast Frames               = 16083475179
Rx Ctrl Frames                    = 0
Rx Pause Frames                   = 0
Rx FCS Error Frames               = 8704
Rx Length Error Frames            = 137
Rx Undersize Frames               = 0
Rx Oversize Frames                = 0
Rx Fragment Frames                = 2457
Rx Jabber Frames                  = 29

Replace or reseat the optic cable.  Physical problems with optic cables can cause signal degradation.

FCS and Jabber errors will also be in the xvnd.log.  Customers can run from user 'admin' CLI:

showlog xvnd.log

 Example:

Jan 16 16:23:41 iop-8 xvnd[549]: ERROR: MAC counters error on port 1 RX_JABBER value = 372764
Jan 16 16:24:14 iop-8 xvnd[549]: ERROR: MAC counters error on port 1 RX_JABBER value = 372813
Jan 16 16:24:47 iop-8 xvnd[549]: ERROR: MAC counters error on port 1 RX_JABBER value = 372857
