Type

Hardware Fault
   mac.bank.fe

Severity

Critical

Description

Fault due to fatal error detected by the MAC chip within itself. This fault affects a single memory bank.

Automated Response

Reset the domain using the memory bank.

Impact

For M10-1 systems, the memory associated with this MAC is deconfigured (4 DIMMs). For M10-4/4S systems, the memory associated with this MAC and the memory associated with the MAC this MAC is striping with is deconfigured (8 DIMMs total).

Indicted Hardware

For M10-1 systems, the Motherboard is marked for replacement. For M10-4/4S systems, the CMUU or CMUL, where affected MAC chip is
mounted, is marked for replacement.

If the fault was detected while running POST, the event is listed under the following categories:

- fe-mem-init-err 02001413, 02001414 There was a fault in a circuit of the MAC sub-chip to initialize DIMM;
- fe-tmo 02001404, 0200140c, 0200140d, 02001411, 02001412 Timeout detected while running diagnostics;
- fe-reg-parity-err 02001406 Parity error detected in the MAC's ERR_ADD or ERR_LOG registers;
- fe-patrol-err 0200140e, 0200140f There was a fault in a circuit to test DIMMs;
- fe-patrol-bad-addr 02001405, 02001407 The MAC patrol circuitry stopped patrolling due to a detection of a failure, but the address in the
  ERR_ADD register was not in memory space.

Suggested Action for System Administrator

The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.

Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
