Type

Hardware Fault
   memory.fe

Severity

Critical

Description

Fault due to a fatal error in a DIMM, such as a parity error detected at a DIMM.

Automated Response

The physical partition using this DIMM (that is, using the memory bank this DIMM belongs to) is reset to deconfigure the DIMM.

Impact

The memory associated with this memory bank is deconfigured (4 DIMMs for M10-1, 8 DIMMs for M10-4/4S).

Indicted Hardware

If the fault was detected while running POST, then such events are listed in the following categories:

fe-addr-line 02001408 There is a failure detected while running diagnostics on a memory address line
If this fault is due to an fe-addr-line event:

  • For M10-1 systems, the DIMM is the first suspect on the suspect list and the Motherboard is the second suspect on the suspect list
  • For M10-4/4S systems, the DIMM is the first suspect on the suspect list and either the CMUU or CMUL, where the suspicious DIMM is mounted, is the second suspect on the suspect list
  • There is also a chance that there is no hardware fault, and that the DIMM is simply seated incorrectly

Suggested Action for System Administrator

The recommended service action for this event is to schedule replacement of the affected component(s) at the earliest possible convenience. Although the hardware may be functioning, it is not intended nor recommended that the faulted component(s) remain in the system for a prolonged period of time.

Refer to the following document for the latest procedures for displaying event content in preparation for submitting a service request and applying any post-repair actions that may be required.
