Purpose

The purpose of this document is to identify misconfigured chassis related alerts for the 7000 Series Unified Storage Appliances.

Details

Symptom: Appliance has reported that a chassis is misconfigured.

Fault class : defect.ak.xmlrpc.hardware.misconfigured_chassis

Fault Alarm :  AK-8000-H7

This alarm may occur during disk firmware updates, as the drives will become unavailable for a short time.

Mark the alarm repaired in the BUI/CLI admin interface.

If issue persists, please update the SR in order to engage a Support engineer to determine if replacement is necessary.

List of different causes for fault alarm :  AK-8000-H7

HDD and Backplane

Example with HUS1560SCSUN600G :

With the release of the Hitachi 600GB 15K Viper disk ( HUS1560SCSUN600G )  and others ( see below ) there is a
requirement that the J4410 has the latest Midplane which was re-worked to correct a Signal
integrity issue .

"While the Hitachi HDDs will work in the configuration there is some signal integrity issues
to certain drive slots which could cause some issues over time depending on the load of the
system "

This issue was reported as SUNBT71534004/15778655 and was integrated into 2011.1.4.0.
Oracle has incorporated into the NAS Software a check that runs which compares the
Part number of the DIsk Shelf with the disks installed. If there is one of these Hitachi disks
installed in a disk shelf that has not been re-worked , the FMA will raise a fault, illuminating
the Fault indicator on the shelf , but all the disks will be healthy .

When Ordering replacement disks that involve the 600GB 15K drives pay special attention.

The seagate disks can be inserted into any J4410 , However the Hitachi requires the updated
J4410 with part number 7041262.

1> IF you have the NEW J4410 ( PN#7041262) you order 600GB/15K disk PN# 7047035

2> IF you have the OLDER J4410 (PN#3753659) YOU MUST ORDER 600GB/15K disk 542-0179

The explanation is that 7047035 will ship either a Seagate or Hitachi, If the hitachi is shipped
and installed in the old backplane you will start seeing the "misconfigured chassis" Fault.

The following HDDS need the reworked disk backplane to work properly ( 04-04-2013)

NOTE: 2TB Disk Assembly PN#7042964 requires Disk Shelf 24x3.5" SAS-2 Chassis Assembly PN#7041264.
NOTE: 3TB Disk Assembly PN#7010135 requires Disk Shelf 24x3.5" SAS-2 Chassis Assembly PN#7041264.
NOTE: 300GB Disk Assembly PN#7047155 requires Disk Shelf 24x3.5" SAS-2 Chassis Assembly PN#7041264.
NOTE: 600GB Disk Assembly PN#7047035 requires Disk Shelf 24x3.5" SAS-2 Chassis Assembly PN#7041264.
NOTE: 18GB Solid State Drives are not qualified in Disk Shelf 24x3.5" SAS-2 Chassis Assembly PN#7041264.
