Steps to assign a Static IP to a Sun Ray Client

Applies to:

Sun Ray Hardware - Version Sun Ray 2 to Sun Ray 3Plus [Release 1.0]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

There will be times when DHCP server that assigns Sun Ray Client(s) their IP's will not be available so hard coding the Client with a Static IP can serve as a workaround. Other situations may just require that a Sun Ray Client (DTU) use a Static IP.

Details

Note:  In order to assign a Static IP, the Sun Ray[TM] Client (DTU) will require GUI firmware to be installed on the Client.  The user will need to know the Static IP for the Sun Ray Client, IP of Sun Ray server(s), IP for firmware server(s) and Domain Name and IP of the of DNS Server(s)  if the later is applicable.

Steps to assign a Static IP to a Sun Ray Client

1. Use the 'stop + m' key combination on Sun Ray[TM] Client's keyboard.

This will bring up the firmware's Main Menu where you can select the Static IP

2. Select Servers from the Main menu.

Enter IP or hostname (hostname must be resovable) of the Sun Ray Server(s).

Enter IP or hostname (hostname must be resovable) of the firmware server(s). Generally, this is the same as the Sun Ray Server.

Note. Firmware server needs to have tftp service online and have firmware (CoronaPx files) in /tftpboot directory.

Enter IP or hostname (hostname must be resovable) for Log Host.  (Generally, this can be left blank.)

Save changes.

3. Select TCP/IP from the Main menu.

Select Static, then enter the client's intended IP.

Enter  the Netmask associated with the IP

Enter (IP or hostname) for Router

Enter Broadcast associated with the IP

Save changes.

4. Select DNS (if applicable) from the Main menu.

Enter Domain Name.  (Ex: oracle.com)

Enter IP or hostname (hostname must be resolvable) of DNS server(s)

Save changes.

5. Select Exit from the Main menu.

Once completed, the Sun Ray Client (DTU) will reboot and attempt to connect to the designated Sun Ray server.  If the Client shows a blank screen with spinning dots, the user may use the 'stop o' command to identify the OSD code.

Note: If code 27D is shown, the user should revisit the instructions above, ensuring that the correct IP for the Server in Step 2 and that the server is up and running.
