In this Document
Applies to:Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud Software - Version 1.0.0.0.0 and laterEnterprise Manager for Fusion Middleware - Version 11.1.1.6.0 to 11.1.1.6.0 Exalogic Elastic Cloud X5-2 Hardware Enterprise Manager Base Platform - Version 12.1.0.5.0 to 12.1.0.5.0 [Release 12.1] Linux x86-64 Oracle Virtual Server (x86-64) PurposeThis is a master note containing all known issues related to Enterprise Manager (EM) and Enterprise Manager Operations Control (EMOC) on Exalogic. DetailsBrief Introduction On Oracle Enterprise ManagerOracle Enterprise Manager (EM) is an optional suite of management products which can provide application-to-disk management for Exalogic deployments. Enterprise Manager allows every individual hardware component within an Exalogic deployment to be monitored in real time and, at the customer’s option, have system status automatically reported to Oracle Support for proactive system maintenance. Through integration with Oracle Support, Enterprise Manager can apply tested patch bundles tailored for Exalogic that cover every layer of the system, from device firmware and operating system to JVM, application server, upper-stack Fusion Middleware, and Oracle applications. Enterprise Manager Grid Control (EMGC), also known as Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c (EM12c)Enterprise Manager Grid Control (EMGC) is also commonly referred to as Enterprise Manager (EM). EMGC focuses on managing the Fusion middleware and Oracle applications deployed on Exalogic. Exalogic-specific functionality allows representation, management and monitoring of Exalogic deployments. For additional information, please refer to Enterprise Manager Documentation. Enterprise Manager Operations Center (EMOC)EMOC is Oracle's single, integrated solution for managing all aspects of a physical data center. It allows for the discovery, provisioning, update, management, and monitoring of the physical and virtual assets in multiple data centers from a single console. EMOC is an enterprise management solution that communicates with Exalogic major components through the Integrated Lights Out Manager (ILOM) service that each component exposes. For additional information, please refer to Monitoring Exalogic Machine Using Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Ops Center.
FAQSIs it recommended to install Enterprise Manager Management Server (OMS) on Exalogic Physical Compute Nodes? On EL Physical Compute nodes, it is not recommended/supported to install OMS to monitor the Exalogic rack. This is because if that node goes down, then we lose monitoring capability. Also, depending on the rack and ILOM versions, the compute node may not be able to access its own ILOM. So EMCC needs to be installed outside of Exalogic rack. In order to use Enterprise Manager to monitor Exalogic, what plug-ins are needed?Enterprise Manger Cloud Control is needed with the Ops Center and Exalogic Infrastructure plug-ins deployed to take full advantage of the full stack monitoring and management for Exalogic. How To Monitor Exalogic Virtual Environments through Enterprise Manager Cloud Control (EMCC) ?Please review the Document ID : 1910452.1 - How To Monitor Exalogic Virtual Environments through Enterprise Manager Cloud Control How to monitor/discover Exalogic hardware (HW) components through Enterprise Manager Console? To see hardware information through Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12 (EM12c) console, it is necessary:
To install and Deploy the Ops Infrastructure stack plug-in refer to the online EM12c documentation, https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/doc.121/e24473/plugin_mngr.htm#EMADM109 Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control and Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center are complementary technologies that are designed to provide an enterprise-level data center management solution for all levels, from applications to storage disks. Ops Center provides all the metrics by monitoring the installed hardware like ZFS and Switches, where as EM12c provides all other software (application) information. Where is the documentation located to discover the components of an Exalogic system? Please see "Documentation To Discover The Exalogic Components For EMOC 11G and 12C" <Note 1610105.1> Can we create shares on the ZFS device from the EM Control? No, at this time this feature is not available from the EM Control. You can still use the ZFS BUI Console to do so. Can we Use Computer Associates System EDGE Software To Monitor Exalogic Systems? The supported monitoring tools for Exalogic systems are Enterprise Manager Cloud Control (EMCC) and Enterprise Manager OpsCenter (EMOC). We do not certify or support CA System monitoring tools (or other vendors) on Exalogic. Can we change the IP address of an existing guest vServer from EMOC once it is created? No. The IP address of existing vServer’s cannot be changed . The only option is to delete the guest vServer and recreate it . To simplyfy the recreation process, one can create a template of the vServer and use that template to create the new vServer with required changes. Here is the link for the template creation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18476_01/doc.220/e25258/appendix.htm#BABFHAFD Can Linux VM Be Cloned From Enterprise Manager Ops Center Console 12c in Exalogic 2.0.1.x.x?Please see <Note 1515241.1> Platinum Configuration1. Is there only one instance of the EM agent for Platinum or do you have one instance in every compute node and guest vServers to monitor all the assets? Only vServers have an EM agent installed. On Exalogic in a virtualized configuration, EM agents are not installed on the compute node (dom0). 2. Where is the agent running? Agent runs only on Exalogic Control vServers. At this time, for Platinum configuration, they are not installing any EM agents on customer/guest vServers. 3. Where is the agent installed? On local disk of compute node or on shared storage? Agents are installed on the ZFS share and mounted on the Exalogic Control vServers at /opt/OracleHomes/agent_home mount point. Each Exalogic Control vServer had its own file system under ACSServices project. File systems are not shared among vServers, e.g. /platinum/agent_1 file system would be mounted on ec1-vm as /opt/OracleHomes/agent_home. For pc1-vm, /platinum/agent_2 4. Any issues with multiple EM agents running within a compute node? Does the EM 12c integration activity need be aware of the Platinum EM agent to ensure there are no install/runtime conflicts? There are no known issues, but all running agents must use different port numbers. Platinum agent user port is 1830 by default. What are the versions of EM certified on Exalogic?Upto 2.0.4.0.0: How to Monitor Exalogic Hybrid (Physical and Virtual) Deployments with Enterprise Cloud Control 12cRefer to <Note 1986197.1> for information on this.
