Purpose

This Document Explain the Characteristics and requirements related to the Electronic & Performance Kit for the SL8500 Tape Library.

Details

The Performance Kit 7024167 is required for RE (Reduntant Electronics). You can not get RE without it the Performance Kit.

The performance kit can be used in a single controller machine. It replaces the HBC with an HBCR (faster, more memory) and the HBT with a High Memory HBT with a part number of 419843201 or higher. This will result in a faster machine.

It is also added to the RE Conversion Bill, CB 003-5451-01. The RE CB comes with an HBCR and a High Memory HBT card. So together, you get 2 new HBCR and 2 new High Memory HBT cards along with all the other stuff that is needed for RE.

As of right now, there is only "Performance Kit" instructions that are used for both. See attached C/I. The matrix on page 3 tells you which parts are from the RE CB and which are from the Performance CB.

-ACSLS 7.3.1 or 8.0.2
-HSC Toleration PTF’s:
ELS (HSC) 6.2 PTFs: (VM) L1H15H9 – (MVS) L1H15HA or ELS 7.0 PTFs: (MVS) L1H15HB
Or
-HSC enhanced feature support:
HSC 6.2 PTFs: (VM) L1H15MF – (MVS) L1H15ME or ELS 7.0 PTFs: (MVS) L1H15MH

Notes:

At this point the recommendation is to use code 6.07, or 7.7 in the cases that the customer needs a specific utility add on 7.7 code.
