Details

IMPORTANT: Oracle ILOM Remote Console communicates to a remote host server SP using the following network ports and protocols:

PortProtocolSP - Oracle ILOM Remote Console
5120 TCP CD
5123 TCP Diskette
5121 TCP Keyboard and mouse
5556 TCP Redirection authentication
7578 TCP Video
7579 TCP SPARC servers only

NOTE: Please be aware of the above ports needing to be open/pass through, especially if the Customer is using a firewall between its clients and the remote host server.

On a clean OS load out-of-box load, rKVMS will not work. In order to get it to
work, you need to do the following, THIS IS WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS WILL HAVE TO DO

Instructions as of 01/12/10 using OS: kt-s10_04
Updated 10/05/10 using OS: s10u9_14a (saa)

1. start rKVMS using ilom BUI
Remote Control -> Redirection - Video Redirection -> Lauch Redirection
The JRC window should connect to SP, but will most likely be blank screen

2. Get to ok prompt (-> start /SP/console -force)

3. Change these and boot (After reset-all, you will need to use rKVMS window to
   boot)
   ok setenv input-device rkeyboard
   ok setenv output-device rscreen
   ok reset-all
   ok boot

4. All boot output and OBP should display in JRC window and /SP/console, when
solaris is reached, you will most likey see this message, /SP/console wont
display anything until you reach the console login prompt.
*****************************************************************************
*
* Starting Desktop Login on display :0..
*
* Wait for the Desktop Login screen before logging in.
*
*****************************************************************************

*****************************************************************************
*
* The X-server can not be started on display :0...
*
* See file /var/dt/Xerrors for details.
*
*****************************************************************************

5. If you see the above message, you need to log in via JRC, do the following
   and reboot

# /usr/sbin/svccfg -s svc:/application/x11/x11-server setprop options/server=/usr/X11/bin/Xorg

6. After reboot, the JRC should display the Solaris login screen and the serial
   console should display this.

*****************************************************************************
*
* Starting Desktop Login on display :0..
*
* Wait for the Desktop Login screen before logging in.
*
*****************************************************************************

7. Now you have rKVMS working, but cannot type in serial console (see: 6895935,
   Closed as Not a Defect.

8. If you want to use both rKVMS and serial, you can do this, get to ok prompt
(in JRC window), change these and boot (or use Solaris eeprom and reboot)
  ok setenv input-device virtual-console
  ok setenv output-device virtual-console
  ok reset-all
  ok boot

9. Now obp and boot stuff are displayed in serial console, but when you
reach solaris, you should get the Solaris login screen in the JRC window.
You should be able to login to solaris via video or serial now.
