Sun Netra CT900 Server - Version Not Applicable to Not Applicable [Release N/A]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Purpose

This document lists the procedure to replace a Netra CT900 ShMM.

Details

The Netra CT900 blade server requires that all components must be at the same firmware revision for proper operation.  Firmware is delivered in a Firmware Cluster Release for major firmware revisions, such as R3U3.  This firmware can be patched to higher levels of the major revision like R3U3P2 via a patch.

The procedure to perform the replacement is as follows:

1.  Review the CT900 Admin & Reference Guide section: Configuring Shelf Management Card Ethernet Ports.  Ensure your laptop serial port is configured per section: Setting up U-Boot (115200 BAUD) & connect to correct port on Shelf Alarm Panel.  Login to the ShMM to be replaced as root ("sunct900" is the default password otherwise contact customer).

2.  Review the CT900 Admin & Reference Guide section: Configuring Shelf Management Card Ethernet Ports.  Inspect file /etc/shelfman.conf for: ipaddr, gatewayip, netmask, hostname, & PROPAGATE_RMCP_ADDRESS.

3.  Perform command "getenv" on ShMM to obtain bootman environment variable settings.

4.  Inspect, tar & backup ShMM files: etc/shelfman.conf etc/shelfman.conf.acb etc/shelfman.conf.acb3 etc/openhpi.conf etc/snmpd.conf etc/vlanconfig etc/netconfig etc/hosts etc/passwd etc/group etc/shadow etc/netconsole.conf.  Also note the address settings.

5.  On ShMM perform command: "[clia] version" to determine the current version of FW (eg. Pigeon Point Shelf Manager ver. 2.4.9-R3U2-RR --> R3U2).  All other components within the chassis should be at the same or lower level.

6.  Ensure that the ShMM NOT to be replaced is the "active" ShMM (steady green LED on ShMM or output of the command "cpld" shows active) --- use "[clia] shmstatus" to check and "[clia] switchover" to make the change between "active" and "backup".

7.  Replace ShMM per section: Removing and Installing Shelf Management Cards of the ct900 Service Manual.

8.  Connect to the other ShMM & note file /etc/shelfman.conf for: ipaddr, gatewayip, netmask, hostname, & PROPAGATE_RMCP_ADDRESS.  Also compare the  backed up files from the other ShMM.

9.  Request an unused IP address from the admin on this network if a laptop is to be used as the tftp server for the firmware download.  Configure the IP of the ftp server (laptop) for this address.

10.  Connect to the new ShMM serial port & perform getenv then perform a setenv (then saveenv to save it) for each variable that differs from step 3.

11.  Perform clia setlanconfig 1 ip <IP>, clia setlanconfig 1 subnet_mask <mask>, & clia setlanconfig 1 dft_gw_ip <GW IP> to configure the network per instruction in the patch's ReadMe.

12.  Check & possibly modify file /etc/shelfman.conf for: ipaddr, gatewayip, netmask, hostname, & PROPAGATE_RMCP_ADDRESS to match step 2.  The backed up file can be copied in IF the format from the prior firmware version is compatible with the ShMM's firmware per patch ReadMe.

13.  If needed copy backup files or modify file /etc/openhpi.conf file's address setting & other backed up files from step 4.  The backed up file can be copied in IF the format from the prior firmware version is compatible with the ShMM's firmware per patch ReadMe.

14.  Perform command: "[clia] version" to determine its version of FW on the replaced blade.  If it is not at the same major version (e.g. R3U2-RR) as the replaced ShMM then upgrade the major FW level.

The firmware is located at the site below.  Place the FW package into the desired directory of a ftp server on that network & unzip it.
   /net/mc-re190.us.oracle.com/export/public/ATCA

Document 1345656.1 lists the  firmware versions.

15.  Ensure that the CT900 has access to the FW file and please follow the instructions from the README file. .

Ensure that the CT900 has access to the ftp server.  If via a laptop, then the laptop must be connected to a port labeled 3.0 on the RTM of the switch in slot 7 for shm1 & slot 8 for shm2.  Then upgrade major FW by command:
   rupgrade_tool -s --u=u-boot.bin --k=sentry.kernel --r=sentry.rfs --proto=ftp:IPaddr:/<desired ftp directory>/R3U2/CHASSIS/ShMM:root -v

16.  Perform steps 10 through 14 to configure the network after the upgrade.

17.  If the replaced ShMM was at a patch level (e.g. R3U3P1) then the proper patch's firmware must be loaded per its patch instructions if the major level was changed, or if the minor level differs from the original ShMM.

The patch number for the releases are also found at this URL under the table in the Release Cluster section, at URL:
   https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=1345656.1

18.  If minor patch upgraded, then perform steps 10 through 14 to configure the network after the upgrade.

19.  Connect to either ShMM serial port & Switchover to activate the replacement ShMM via command "[clia] switchover".

20.  Confirm that the ShMM took over the proper IP address by pinging from the ftp server
