Over-temperature warning condition detected on platform.
Type
- Fault
- fault.chassis.env.temp.over-warn
Severity
- Critical
Description
- Over-temperature warning condition has been detected by inlet temperature sensor, exhaust temperature sensor, or CPU temperature sensor.
Automated Response
- Fan speed will be raised for all fans on the platform. If the over-temperature warning condition has been detected by an exhaust temperature sensor or a CPU temperature sensor, shutdown messages will be sent to domains on the platform.
Impact
- If the over-temperature warning condition has been detected by an exhaust temperature sensor or a CPU temperature sensor, shutdown messages will be sent to domains on the platform.
Suggested Action for System Administrator
- Platform administrator should investigate the cause of the over-temperature condition. Please consult the detail section of the knowledge article for additional information.
Details
- Over-temperature warning condition has been detected by inlet
temperature sensor, exhaust temperature sensor, or CPU
temperature sensor.
If the over-temperature warning condition has been detected by
an exhaust temperature sensor or a CPU temperature sensor, the
domains that are affected by the overtemperature
condition will be sent requests to shut down.
Fan speed will be raised for all fans on the platform.
If shutdown messages have been sent to all domains on the
platform, then no further action is taken. Otherwise, if
the over-temperature warning condition has been detected
by an exhaust temperature sensor or a CPU temperature sensor,
shutdown messages are sent to all the domains on the
platform by the SCF driver.
The recommended service action for this event is outlined in the steps below.
Step 1. Collect the fault message (use one of the following methods):
Single-line fault message displayed on the XSCF console:
Mar 20 21:38:51 san-ff2-21-0 fmd: SOURCE: sde, REV: 1.12, CSN: 7860000772
EVENT-ID: 8b34abe2-087a-455c-b327-2a3291506308
Refer to http://www.sun.com/msg/SCF-8006-3J for detailed information.
Complete fault message using 'fmdump -m' on the XSCF console:
MSG-ID: SCF-8006-3J, TYPE: Fault, VER: 1, SEVERITY: Critical
EVENT-TIME: Tue Mar 20 21:38:51 UTC 2007
PLATFORM: SPARC-Enterprise, CSN: 7860000772, HOSTNAME: san-ff2-21-0
SOURCE: sde, REV: 1.12
EVENT-ID: 8b34abe2-087a-455c-b327-2a3291506308
DESC: Over-temperature warning condition has been detected by inlet temperature sensor, exhaust temperature
sensor, or CPU temperature sensor.
Refer to http://www.sun.com/msg/SCF-8006-3J for more information.
AUTO-RESPONSE: Fan speed will be raised for all fans on the platform. If the over-temperature warning
condition has been detected by an exhaust temperature sensor or a CPU temperature sensor, shutdown
messages will be sent to domains on the platform.
IMPACT: If the over-temperature warning condition has been detected by an exhaust temperature sensor or
a CPU temperature sensor, shutdown messages will be sent to domains on the platform.
REC-ACTION: Platform administrator should investigate the cause of the over-temperature condition.
Please consult the detail section of the knowledge article for additional information.
Step 2. Collect the output from the 'fmdump -v -u EVENT_ID' command
SPARC Enterprise platform example:
xscf> fmdump -v -u 8b34abe2-087a-455c-b327-2a3291506308
TIME UUID MSG-ID

Step 3. Platform administrator should investigate the cause of the over-temperature condition.
If unable to identify the cause of the over-temperature condition,
then contact your Authorized Service Provider.
