Description

Due to <bug 23528420>, InfiniBand switches may experience high CPU utilization.

Occurrence

InfiniBand switches may experience high CPU utilization after receiving a malformed POST request via HTTP or HTTPS. Such requests are often initiated by a security scan tool.  Note that Oracle Enterprise Manager does not issue these type of requests.

See <Document 2146310.1> for additional details.

Symptoms

Possible symptoms include the following:

  • Subnet manager unable to get CPU to respond to network management duties.
  • Database server or storage server eviction, especially for versions < 2.1.6 due to <bug 17482244>.
  • High CPU utilization (0% idle time) on the switch.
  • Slow ssh or web login to the switch.
  • Slow running diagnostic commands on the switch.

Note that a switch may experience high CPU utilization caused by this issue for an extended period of time and remain functional and stable.  While the switch is affected, if a subsequent action that requires CPU were to occur, such as a patchmgr ibswitch upgrade prerequisite check, it may lead to the symptoms described above, including database server or storage server eviction.

See <Document 2146310.1> for additional details.

Workaround

See <Document 2146310.1> for additional details.

Patches

Fixed in version 2.2.2 and higher.  See <Document 2146310.1> for additional details.
