Description

Sun Storage 7310/7410 storage systems running ZFS Storage Appliance (ZFSSA) Software version 2011.1.9.3 or earlier with 100GB Readzilla SATA disk drives require ZFSSA upgrade to avoid future drive compatibility/availability issues.

Notes:

1. 7310 and 7410 storage appliance systems may have disk drive part number 540-7793 installed, which may no longer be available, and replacement disk 7320823 is only supported on ZFSSA 2011.1.9.4 or later.

2. For information regarding issues with the 200GB Readzilla drive, please see: How-To <Document:1984011.1> - "Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: Support Strategy for Replacing a ZFS Logzilla with a Higher Capacity SSD""

Occurrence

This issue can occur on the following releases for the 7310 and 7410 storage appliance systems:

ZFSSA Platform

  • ZFSSA 2011.1.9.3 (Version 2011.04.24.9.3) or earlier

Notes:

1. This issue only affects 100GB Readzilla SATA disk drives for the 7310 and 7410 storage appliance systems.

2. 7310 and 7410 storage appliance systems are not supported on the ZFSSA 2013* release.

3. ZFS platforms 7110, 7210, 7120, 7320, and 7420 are not affected by this issue.

4. ZFSSA 2011.04.24.9.4 is the "minimum fully supported version" for 7310/7410 systems. (as noted in <Document:2021771.1> - "Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance: Software Updates")

To determine the current ZFSSA revision on a system, run the following command:

      7000:> maintenance system updates list
      UPDATE DATE STATUS
      ak-nas@2011.04.24.1.0,1-1.8 2011-12-21 22:32:50 current

or:

Do the following from the Browser User Interface (BUI) to access "info" about the release name:

      a) Navigate to: Maintenance -> System
      b) Click on the "i" next to the "Current System Software" entry in the table of available releases.

A pop-up will show the release, for example: "2010.Q3.4.2"

Symptoms

Sun Storage 7310/7410 systems with ZFSSA 2011.1.9.3 (or earlier) will experience compatibility/availability issues for newer drives and firmware (ie: in the event of disk replacement.)

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

Resolution

This issue is addressed in the following releases for the 7310 and 7410 storage appliance systems:

ZFSSA Platform

  • ZFSSA 2011.1.9.4 (Version 2011.04.24.9.4) or later
