Description

System Firmware versions between 8.7.2.b and 8.8.1D contain a regression that will cause any CPU that experiences certain correctable errors to hang which, in turn, will lead to a domain panic, or hypervisor abort. This is fatal to the system and will require a reboot to recover. All -02 patches for System Firmware (as listed below) have been WITHDRAWN and are no longer available.

Occurrence

This issue can occur on the following platforms:

SPARC Platform

SPARC T4-1 servers with Firmware patch 152059-02
SPARC T4-2 servers with Firmware patch 152060-02
SPARC T4-4 servers with Firmware patch 152061-02
SPARC T4-1B servers with Firmware patch 152062-02
SPARC Netra T4-1 servers with Firmware patch 152063-02
SPARC Netra T4-2 servers with Firmware patch 152064-02
SPARC Netra T4-1B servers with Firmware patch 152065-02

To determine the firmware version installed on the system, use the following ILOM command:

-> show /HOST sysfw_version

Symptoms

When this issue occurs, the system may experience a panic similar to the following. Other types of panics and aborts are also possible.

      send mondo timeout [retries: 0xabef9] cpuids: 0x40
      panic: failed to stop cpu64
      panic[cpu119]/thread=301795daa40: send_mondo_set: timeout

Workaround

The only workaround for this issue is to install a firmware revision that is previous to 8.8.1.c. (but recommended that the latest version 8.8.1.d be installed, as listed below).

This issue is addressed in the following releases:

This regression was caused by the change for bug 21394525.

The only known workaround is to revert the firmware to an earlier version than 8.8.1.c.
