Tekelec

Description

Customers with DSR 5.0 or 6.0 may experience false "22103 - SCTP Connection Impaired" minor alarms for uni or multi homed SCTP connections.

  • The  "22103 - SCTP Connection Impaired" alarm is to alert customers of potential path impairment that would require investigation and does not alert customers of service impact.
  • For uni home connections, this alarm is not expected and in some instances the alarm is presented and may not clear once raised.
  • For multi home connections, this alarm is presented falsely and upon investigation the paths, they are not impaired and the alarm may not clear once raised.
  • Should a connection become unavailable, Major Alarm "22101 - Connection Unavailable" will be presented. This alarm is not impacted by this defect.

This defect has been documented on the following BUGs that are resolved in DSR 7.0.1 software.

Unexpected SCTP Connection Impaired alarms on non-MH connections

Occurrence

This alarm is sporadic or intermittent and likelihood of occurrence cannot be determined.

Symptoms

Minor Alarm "22103 - SCTP Connection Impaired" is generated for uni or multi home connection.

  • In some cases, whenever the alarm is investigated, the alarms are false as the SCTP connection is on a uni homed path or both paths of a multi homed path are not closed.
  • In some cases, the alarms can be cleared by using the workaround that is documented in document listed below.
  • In some cases, the alarm will not clear using the workaround and will remain active. These alarms are not considered service impacting and should be ignored.

Clearing Condition: This alarm is cleared in any of the following situations:

    • All the paths of an established SCTP connection are restored
    • The SCTP connection is closed (e.g. as a result to all paths becoming unavailable). Major Alarm "22101 - Connection Unavailable" will be presented.

Recovery:

    1. Identify the most recent SCTP Connection Impaired event in the event log for the connection and use the Event's recovery steps to resolve the issue.
    2. Contact Oracle Support for assistance.

Workaround

See Document ID:1908167.1 for possible work arounds.

Oracle can perform additional workarounds by modifying the severity of Alarm "22103 - SCTP Connection Impaired" from Minor to Information. This will remedy the false alarm however customer will lose the ability to identify and investigate a true multi home impaired connection. Major Alarm "22101 - Connection Unavailable" will be presented to inform customers that a connection is unavailable. Please contact Oracle Support should you wish to implement this workaround.

Oracle recommends that customers should plan to upgrade to the 7.0.1 MR as soon as possible to obtain the permanent solutions to correct the false "22103 - SCTP Connection Impaired" Alarms.
