Description

Sun Storage Common Array Manager (CAM) Software fails on Sun Storage 2540-M2 arrays with IPV6 enabled by the manufacturer if the array is configured to use 'in-band' management. After the Sun Storage 2540-M2 array has been registered with CAM, the CAM software is no longer able to connect to the array and therefore cannot manage the array.

Occurrence

This issue can occur in the following releases on all platforms (SPARC, x86, Windows, and Linux):

  • Sun Storage Common Array Manager 6.5.x.x through 6.10.0.5

on the following Sun Storage Array:

  • 2540-M2 Array

The described issue only occurs if both of the following are true:

1. The Sun Storage 2540-M2 array is "in-band" managed by Common Array Manager.

2. The controller of the Sun Storage 2540-M2 array is IPv6 enabled by the manufacturer. This can be verified  through Common Array Network Manager by using the following CAM CLI command once the array has been registered:

    sscs list -d {device} -s fru

For example:

    sscs list -d st2540m2-array-a -s fru Tray.99.Controller.A | grep IPv6
    Ethernet Port 1 IPv6 Enabled : True
    Ethernet Port 1 IPv6 Global Address : 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:000
    Ethernet Port 1 IPv6 Link Local Address : fe80:0000:0000:0000:0280:e5ff:fe23:eab
    Ethernet Port 1 IPv6 Router : 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:000
    Ethernet Port 1 Type : IPv4 and IPv6 Capable
    Ethernet Port 2 IPv6 Enabled : False
    Ethernet Port 2 Type : IPv4 and IPv6 Capable

For more information on how to use sscs, please read the CAM CLI guide located at:

The example of this particular command can be found on page 49.

Symptoms

If the described issue occurs, CAM can no longer access the Sun Storage 2540-M2 array. The CAM GUI will show "Lost Communication" for the affected array.

Workaround

This issue is addressed in the following releases:

SPARC Platform:

  • Common Array Manager 6.10.2 or later

x86 Platform:

  • Common Array Manager 6.10.2 or later

Linux Platform:

  • Common Array Manager 6.9.0.* with patch 147418-03 or later

Windows Platform:

  • Common Array Manager 6.9.0.* with patch 147417-03 or later
