Description

The ability on the Callhome server to receive Callhome transfers via Secure Copy Protocol (SCP) from Pillar Axiom Storage Systems will be deactivated in June 2014.

Additionally, in later releases of the Pillar Axiom Software after June 2014, the ability to select the SCP protocol as the method of Callhome transfer from within the Graphical User Interface will be removed.

Enabling the Callhome feature on Pillar Axiom Storage Systems allows the system to monitor and report system events 24/7. If a fault occurs, event logs are gathered and transferred automatically to one of the Oracle Pillar Callhome servers. Upon receipt, an Automated Service Request (ASR) is created in My Oracle Support and assigned to a member of the Oracle Support team to conduct initial analysis.

Occurrence

This issue applies to the following Pillar Axiom Platforms:

  • Pillar Axiom 300 Storage System
  • Pillar Axiom 500 Storage System
  • Pillar Axiom 600 Storage System

Note: No other Pillar Axiom systems are affected by this issue.

Symptoms

If a Pillar Axiom Storage System is not properly migrated to the use of HTTPS by June 2014, it will fail to successfully send an ASR heartbeat, and the Callhome server will no longer be able to transfer fault information and system events via SCP.  Those failures will generate notifications to the customer regarding the heartbeat miss.

Workaround

Customers that are currently using the SCP protocol to transfer Callhome logs will need to amend the Callhome transfer protocol method from SCP to HTTPS in the Axiom graphical interface before the June 2014 deadline. This will ensure that Callhomes are successfully sent and received. It only takes a few moments to make the amendment and the procedure is non-disruptive to data access.

For more information, and to view the steps necessary to configure the Callhome settings for the Pillar Axiom Storage System, please review the Oracle Support Knowledge "How-To" Document:

"Pillar Axiom: Callhome Settings and Test Callhome" <Document:1512445.1>

Note: The correct (and only) hostname that works for the callhome server is: callhome.support.pillardata.com (the server certificate is tied to that hostname)
