Description

The Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) X3-2 ships from the factory with the Operating System (OS) and Appliance Manager pre-Installed. On some ODA X3-2 systems that were shipped in the November-December 2013 time frame, there is a possibility the operating system was not pre-loaded on the bootable hard drive from manufacturing.

Please see the attached file for the list of serial numbers of ODA X3-2 machines that shipped during this time frame which MIGHT be affected by this issue.

Occurrence

This issue can occur on the following platform:

  • Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) X3-2 (shipped between Nov-Dec 2013)

Notes:

      1. No other ODA systems are affected by this issue.
      2. Not all ODA X3-2s that were shipped in the Nov-Dec 2013 time frame are affected by this issue.

Symptoms

On the ODA X3-2 systems affected by this issue, there is no OS present and the system will not boot.

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

If you intend to install the system using the “Bare Metal” configuration – and have experienced an issue booting the system, please do one of the following:

Re-image the system hard drive following the procedures in <Document 1373599.1> – "Oracle Database Appliance Bare Metal Restore Procedure". The latest image available as of this writing is version ODA Patch 2.9.0.0.0 in <SUNPATCH:12999313>.

If necessary - log a service request at https://support.oracle.com and an Oracle service representative will guide you through the above procedure.

NOTE: if you are planning to use a Virtualized version of the software (not “Bare Metal”) - then this issue will not affect the system – as you will be re-imaging the hard drive per normal procedure.

This issue has since been corrected in manufacturing.
