Description

Upgrading to Sun System Firmware version 8.3.0.b on SPARC T4-4 systems (patch 150415-01) may cause TLI (Top Level Identifier) information to be unavailable, which could result in disabled components and unnecessary hardware replacement. In extreme cases, the system may become unusable.

Note: Patch 150415-01 is WITHDRAWN and no longer available for download.

Occurrence

This issue can occur on the following platform:

SPARC Platform

  • SPARC T4-4 with Sun System Firmware version 8.3.0.b (as delivered in patch 150415-01) and without Firmware  8.3.0.c (as delivered in patch 150415-02)

Notes:

      1. No other platforms, systems or firmware versions are affected by this issue.

To determine if a system has the affected firmware installed, use the following command:

From Solaris:

    # prtdiag -v|grep Firmware
      Sun System Firmware 8.3.0.b 2013/04/23 08:54

Symptoms

Upon login to Oracle ILOM, the following warning message is shown:

with one or more of the following information missing from “show /SYS” output:

Workaround

There is no workaround for this issue.

This issue is addressed on the following platform:

SPARC Platform

  • SPARC T4-4 with Sun System Firmware version 8.3.0.c (as delivered in patch 150415-02) or later

Patches

<SUNPATCH:150415-02>

History

07-Jun-2013: Document released; status Workaround
13-Jun-2013: Updated to reflect patch 150415-01 is WITHDRAWN
05-Jul-2013: Firmware 8.3.0.c released (Patch 150415-02); issue is Resolved
14-Aug-2013: Updated to remove original "Workaround": downgrade to 8.2.2.c; has been reported unreliable

This bug was introduced in system firmware v8.3.0.b and may be related
to how the initial Base_Part_Identity FRUID has been programmed.
Systems have been recovered by regressing the firmware back to 8.2.2.c., but this is not a reliable workaround.
